Real BHI Weddings: Kate & Donnie
There’s really not much for me to say about Kate and Donnie’s October outdoor Bald Head Island wedding, because these incredible and gorgeous pictures speak for themselves. A traditional ceremony in the Bald Head Island Chapel followed by an outdoor reception under the oaks and the lighthouse on the Old Baldy Lighthouse Grounds made for the most charming wedding and reception a couple could ask for.
Bald Head Island has such a romantic feel, with the big oaks, the Spanish moss, and the idyllic, wide open beaches. Together, they make the perfect setting for a wedding.
Kate decided to forgo the traditional round tables and floor length linens for some dark wood farmhouse tables with chivari chairs and cream cushions. A burlap runner, simple white flower arrangements, and some sparkly gold overlays on the cocktail tables kept everything in natural tones while playing up the beauty of the island and the surrounding nature.
If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, think about how simple details can create visual impact and tie in the natural surroundings to create a cohesive feel for the space. It’s important to have a tent so that guests have a place to stay out of the elements in the event of inclement weather (rain, wind, sun) but don’t feel like everything has to stay under the tent. Try to create flow from inside to outside, inviting your guests to mingle between the spaces.
If it’s a summer wedding, thoughtful touches like handheld fans can help keep guests cool, while if it’s a fall wedding, shawls make a great favor and help keep guests warm from any chill in the air. This lets your guests know you kept them in mind throughout your planning process, and you want them to be comfortable and truly enjoy their time at your wedding.
A huge congratulations to Kate and Donnie, and many years of happiness to come!
