Real BHI Weddings: Angelique & Judson

first look 6

Well, the spring kept me super busy with weddings – I was on Bald Head Island for 4 weddings in 5 weeks in May and June. Before that craziness started, though, I had the pleasure of working with Angelique and Judson on their wedding on April 2nd.

I first met Angelique and Jud on the island months before their wedding. They came down to met with me in person, and we had a quick chat at Sandpiper over a cup of coffee.

My favorite thing about Angelique and Jud’s wedding was their unique theme. They enjoy traveling together, and also learning about their horoscope signs. They made the theme of their wedding follow these, using their horoscope signs, maps, globes, celestial charts, and stars.

The centerpieces were all DIY by Angelique – she cut out celestial charts and maps in a circle, then had old hardcover books which I stacked in a short stack and topped with a small globe. We then surrounded the centerpiece with a few small votive candles and a sprinkling of cut out silver stars. The end result looked wonderful, and was so unique. Their guest book was a map of the world, which we laid out on a table and everyone signed. They took this home to frame it and hang it up! I love when couples put a personal touch like this on their wedding day.

Angelique and Jud also chose to do “first look” photos. This is when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony, in private. It’s definitely a non-traditional option, but it can take a lot of the tension off the moment when the bride steps foot in the aisle. At that moment, not only is the groom seeing her for the first time, but so is everyone else. The first look offers a bit of a more private, intimate moment for the couple to spend a few minutes together, and with having that ceremony tension removed, can allow them to really be truly present for the ceremony and be aware of what’s happening around them.

First look photos are also some of the best around. I love seeing the different ways people do this, and the way the faces are captured, with the bride coming up behind the groom, and the groom turning around and seeing her for the first time. I thought the first look photos from this wedding turned out especially well – you can see the progression, and the pure joy on Jud’s face when he turns around to look at her.

And the party! Where else but Bald Head Island do your guests feel relaxed enough to breakdance and walk on their hands on the dance floor? That’s all I have to say about that. 🙂

All in all, this was a beautiful wedding, with unique, personal touches that really made it stand out. This is definitely one I’ll remember for years to come!
